Two Maricel Armoires in White
We bought two Maricel Armoires. They’re very nice, but we have a few small gripes.
First, the drawers are a little snug. This is probably fine, but I worry as the humidity and temperature changes, we might find that they’re very difficult to open at times. I probably wouldn’t even notice it, though, if we didn’t already have several Gothic-brand pieces with drawers on tracks, which are incredibly easy to open and close. Second, there was a piece missing upon delivery. It’s not shown in the photos, but the hanging area contains a shelf you can adjust the height of. One of our armoires came with the shelf, but the other was missing it. We were told when it was installed that we could call Gothic and ask for the missing shelf to be replaced, but we decided not to, since we didn’t want the shelves anyway. (Who wants a shelf in the middle of your hanging storage space? Even if the height of the shelf is adjustable, I’d definitely rather use that space for my hanging clothes.) Of course, now we have the other shelf just lying around collecting dust. Third, only a few days after the armoires were installed, my partner nudged one of the feet of the armoire (in socks, not shoes), and a piece of the wood just fell off. It’s in a discreet area, so we’re not overly concerned, but it was a little frustrating. Fourth, the hanging area comes with a hollow metal rod for hangers that is not up to the task of holding my clothes. I’ll admit that I have a LOT of clothing. (I use tree hangers, so I can take advantage of the vertical space as well as horizontal.) I noticed right away that the rod sagged in the middle when all my clothes were hanging on it. But I figured it would be fine. A few weeks after the armoires were installed, I was hanging something up, and the rod sagged so much that both ends came out of the supports, and the whole thing fell down, leaving my clothes in a pile at the bottom of the space. I tried hanging everything up again (carefully), but it fell down immediately. We decided to buy wooden rods and just replace the metal ones, so we’re hoping that will be a long-term solution.
All that being said, the armoires are overall very sturdy and a good size. I would still buy them if I had the choice over again.
